South By Scooter Screens at the Adelaide Kids Film Festival

official selection adelaide kids ff.png

Last Thursday I joined a sold-out audience of Primary School students at Adelaide Studios for a screening of South By Scooter at the third Adelaide Kids Film Festival.

AKFF was the first festival appearance by South By Scooter. Needless to say the whole experience was a lot of fun. Watching an audience of children enjoy my film was truly fantastic feedback.

The big unknown for me going into the festival was whether or not the kids would find the film funny, and whether it would be able to sustain their attention. I wondered if they might lose interest, especially during the more contemplative sequences such as 'Alone'. So I was absolutely thrilled to see the snowstorm and penguin sequences receive a big laugh, and to see the audience were genuinely engaged by the film!

It really was a treat seeing South By Scooter screened at AKFF. Hopefully this is just the beginning of South By Scooter's festival run!

Watch South By Scooter!

My short film South By Scooter is out now, and you can watch the whole thing online for free!

Making South By Scooter has been a huge experience. Just about everything I did for the film was a first for me. I made the movie essentially by myself - with a little help from Liz, Mum and Dad - for no money, in the front room of my house. Instead of worrying about whether or not that was possible I just did it. One step at a time, one day at a time, with a camera and a sewing machine I worked towards South By Scooter. Now it's done, I can't believe it!

Here it is:

I'm really happy with the movie, and I would love for as many people as possible to be able to see and enjoy it. So, if you like the film, please share it with your friends. You can use the youtube link above, or this short link: www.m-a-x.me/sxs . I know everyone is always saying this online these days and it's hard to say it in an original way, but it would mean everything to me if you did share it. I made this film for people to enjoy, so I want as many people to see it as possible.

If you're interested you can also find more relating to the film at the South By Scooter project page, which I will be updating as the release continues.

In a couple of weeks I will start doing in depth breakdowns of how I made the film, which will cover every stage from conception through to release. You'll be able to find those here on the blog.

Keep adventuring, or if you haven't started yet - start adventuring!

Max.

SXS Premiere Success! Thanks!

Wow! Thanks to everyone who came along to the South By Scooter Premiere last night. I was a weird combination of amazed, honoured, and totally overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up and the reaction to the film! I love all of you guys!

Thanks again to Liz for helping to put the whole thing together, Tim and Paul for lending their sex appeal to the DVD store, Rowan for making sure the movie played, Emmett for waving a camera around and to Mum and Dad for being amazing in every way.
